I experienced it at Gemstone where a facility for the elderly, as a volunteer. In this facility, there are residents with disabilities in their ears, hands, feet, so we helped them to live without any inconvenience.
I spent a lot of time doing recreation with the residents in volunteer work. Among them, the best memory is talking. I learned about Canadian culture and war because I heard about the resident’s life so far, hard experiences, and fun events. Also, in the love story, I respected her because her values were great, and I also got a love consultation. We had conversations about various topics, so we were able to deepen our relationship with the resident. Then, autonomy grew, such as talking to myself so that I would be happy, and helping because I wanted to be helpful.
By interacting with people who are far apart in age and have different native languages and cultures, I learned the difficulty of communicating and the difficulty of understanding each other. So, I was able to think of and implement improvement measures to build a better relationship with the resident.
